2016 MTBMA Hall of Leadership Inductee Announcement

058David C. Bramble, President of David A. Bramble, Inc. was inducted into the MTBMA Hall of Leadership during the Annual Awards Dinner on December 8, 2016.

This award honors men and women of the construction industry in Maryland who have been a major influence on both the industry and their professional colleagues over the course of their careers.  Mr. Bramble was recognized for his outstanding service and commitment to further the cause of better transportation construction and materials in Maryland.

Danny is the second generation of the Bramble family to be presented this award honoring outstanding service and commitment to further the cause of better transportation construction and materials in Maryland.  David A. Bramble, Danny’s father and founder of David A. Bramble, Inc., was inducted in 2001.  David A., following service in World War II as an Army Air Force pilot, started the construction business in 1947.  The business’ first office was located in the small Eastern Shore town of Fairlee, just minutes outside of Chestertown. After pre-qualifying to bid on work by the Maryland State Road Commission and winning some State Highway Administration projects, the company was incorporated in 1959.

Meanwhile, Danny attended St. Paul’s School in Baltimore, as a boarding student.  There he won the title of Maryland Scholastic Association Champion in wrestling, and also played lacrosse.  He graduated in 1964 and went on to Lehigh University, where he was captain of the lacrosse team and earned a degree in civil engineering.  During the summers in high school and college Danny worked for the company learning the trade.  Danny served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972, and was stationed in Austin, Texas.

After his time in the service, he came home to work at David A. Bramble, Inc. in 1972.  He began as a project manager.  He was elected President in 1992, and holds that title today.  David A. Bramble, Inc. has over 250 employees.  Proudly, this includes 12 employees that have been with the company over 35 years, 9 employees that have been with the company over 30 years, and 19 that have been with the company over 20 years.  The company has two hot mix asphalt plants.

It owns more than 200 pieces of major construction equipment, operates a fleet of 50 Macks, 20 vocational trucks, and numerous pickups and trailers. The company is one of the largest employers in the upper Eastern Shore area.

In addition to being a business owner dedicated to the success of the transportation construction industry, Danny is an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. Danny has traveled to South America on bird hunting expeditions and various places in the Caribbean and Florida to fish. Danny also participates in numerous sporting clay events annually. His favorite locations to hunt, fish, and enjoy wildlife will always be those close to his Eastern Shore home. He especially enjoys the Canvasback ducks that winter on a sanctuary lake at his Kent County home.

Danny has been married to his wife, Holly, for over 40 years. He has two children, who both also work at David A. Bramble, Inc., four
grandchildren, and two beloved Labrador retrievers.

Projects & Awards

David A. Bramble, Inc. has worked on most every major highway project on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, including: dualization of 113; various segments and overpass segments of 301; dualization and Bridge replacement (as a Joint Venture) of 404; I-95 weigh-station in Cecil County; the Salisbury Bypass; and major portions of the U.S. Route 50 “Reach the Beach” initiative.

David A. Bramble, Inc. also performed work in Delaware, most notably: US Route 113 in Sussex County; SR1 in Dover, Scarborough Road, and; SR1 Puncheon Run.

The company has also worked on various county and municipal airports, ranging from small parking aprons to major runway extensions, and a variety of other construction projects. Under Danny’s leadership David A. Bramble, Inc. has been cited for excellence in the industry and high quality of work by a wide variety of organizations.

 Awards include:

  • Beginning in 1970, over 25 Maryland Asphalt Association Paving Awards for quality paving.
  • Beginning in 1980, eight National Asphalt Paving Association (NAPA) Awards for Quality Paving on a state highway project.
  • NAPA’s Sheldon G. Hayes Award for major highways (1985).
  • David A. Bramble, Inc. was the first company in Maryland to win this Award.
  • Numerous MDQI Award of Excellence Awards
  • American Society of Civil Engineer “Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Major Construction Project”
  • County Engineer’s Association Project of the Year
  • State Highway Administration’s Maintenance of Traffic Award

Trade Organizations

Danny is dedicated to the success of his company and the construction industry in Maryland. Danny has been an active member of construction industry trade organizations. He joined the Maryland Highway Contractors Association (now MTBMA) decades ago. He went through the chairs, holding the offices of Vice-Chairman and Chairman and remains a director of the association. He has been a steadfast, outspoken member of the Liaison/Leadership Council, which meets with the State to review and discuss improvement and/or changes to specifications and processes. He has also been one of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) longest-serving Board Members, serving as a representative on its Board of Directors from 1997 to 2013. He has also supported ARTBA’s Transportation Makes America Work! Campaign. The company is also a member of NUCA and past member of ABC. Danny has been a vocal proponent of the gas tax and willing participant in assisting the industry in various legislative initiatives.

Local Support

Danny has long supported his community by giving toward the efforts of local charities and public agencies. David A. Bramble, Inc. and the David A Bramble Foundation, Inc. have continually sponsored many local sports teams, church fundraisers, area public and private school activities, University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (Chestertown), and numerous other philanthropic endeavors. Notably, every child of David A. Bramble, Inc.’s employees is eligible for a scholarship to pursue community college, four-year college or trade school. Additionally, each year the David A. Bramble Foundation offers scholarships to Kent and Queen Anne’s High school Seniors considering a career in engineering, mathematics, and/or science. Danny also served on the Board of Trustees of Kent School and the Board of Directors of what was the Kent & Queen Anne’s County Hospital (now University of Maryland Shore Regional Health), both located in Chestertown, Maryland.
