James A. Russ – Interim President

MTBMA is pleased to announce Jim Russ, former President of Aggregate Industries – Mid-Atlantic as Interim President of MTBMA.

As most of you are aware, Jim has been actively involved in Aggregate and Concrete businesses in Maryland, D.C., Virginia, and West Virginia over the past 40 years.

He has been active in association work and the political scene in Maryland since 1970.

Jim has served on Ready Mix Concrete and Aggregate Boards in Maryland, Massachusetts and Virginia. He served as Chairman of the Ready Mix Concrete Research Foundation (2002), Chairman of the Board for National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA) and Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Metro Washington and is serving a second term as a Director of  the CONEXPO/CONAGG Show Committee.

Jim has also enjoyed supporting community actions and served on the Board of Prince George’s Community College from 1975-1985 and as Chairman in 1982.

DBE Goal Methodology Survey

August 19, 2009

MDOT is conducting a survey to consult with minority, women’s and general contractor groups, community organizations and officials regarding the availability of disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged businesses, the effects of discrimination on opportunities for DBEs, MDOT’s efforts to establish a level playing field for the participation of DBEs, and MDOT’s methodology for establishing overall DBE goals for the Maryland Aviation Administration, Maryland Transit Administration and State Highway Administration. There will also be a public meeting on August 28, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at MDOT Headquarters. The intent of this meeting is ONLY for attendees to give information and answer the questions outlined in the survey. If you are interested in attending this meeting you must RSVP to Zenita Wickham Hurley, Director, MDOT Office of Minority Business Enterprise, zhurley@mdot.state.md.us or call 410-865-1253. MBE/DBE Application Assistance Workshop

August 24, 2009

MDOT will be hosting a free workshop on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 from 10 am to 1 pm to assist small and minority business owners in the application process and contract opportunities. Fall Golf and Clay Shoot

Register now for the Fall Invitational Golf Outing and Sporting Clay Shoot scheduled for September 23, 2010.

The Golf Outing will be held at Queenstown Harbor Golf Links, 310 Links Lane, Queenstown, MD. The Sporting Clay Shoot will be held at Schrader’s Bridgetown Manor, 16090 Oakland Road, Henderson, MD but will join the golfers for dinner at Queenstown.

Have You Contacted Your Elected Officials?

In less than two weeks elected officials will return to Washington. It is vital that you and your employees communicate with them the need for a transportation bill.

Please contact your Senators and Representatives and urge them to make passing a long-term reauthorization bill a priority for 2010.

Voter Information

Please mark your calendars. The Primary election will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. A list of Polling place locations are available from the Board of Elections.

Those Registered Voters who wish to vote by Absentee Ballot may do so by mailing an Absentee Ballot Application to the address on the form. Absentee Ballots must be received no later than September 7, 2010.

MdQI Award Nominations

The Awards Subcommittee invites you to submit nominations for the 2010 Awards of Excellence. For rules and forms, go to www.mdae.org/mdqi2011/mdqi.html. The award applications will be due to the sponsoring agencies by September 30, 2010.

Awards will be presented at the 2011 MdQI Conference scheduled for February 2 & 3, 2011 at the Sheraton, Baltimore City Center.
