AASHTO Maintenance Subcommittee Sponsorship Opportunities

Call for Committee Members

July 9, 2009

Following are the MTBMA committees, listed by name and proposed chairman and/or board liaison, as well as a brief statement of committee purposes and objectives.

Associates Council-Chris Kunkel
To provide associate members with opportunities to interact with contractor and producer members, such as by offering presentations on new  technologies and services, articles in Infrastructure MD, and assistance on issues affecting the industry.

Education & Community/Public Relations-Frank Chaney
To promote industry-related educational opportunities, favorable relationships with the communities in which the industry operates or which are affected by industry operations, and a favorable image of the industry with the public.

Environment-Tim Bevard
To consider environmental issues affecting the industry (primarily producer Issues) and to work the Government Affairs Committee or the Board of Directors, as appropriate.

Government Affairs-Dave Thomey
To formulate industry interests and positions as well as supporting arguments with respect to pending legislative and regulatory matters affecting the industry at the federal, state, and local levels.

MBE-DBE-Danny Bramble
To foster consensus between minority and women owned businesses on MBE/DBE program issues and to explore opportunities for MBE/DBE business development.

Safety-no one designated
To monitor transportation construction and aggregate industry safety issues for educational and/or legislative or regulatory purposes, in cooperation with MOSH and MSHA.

Technical -Jeff Greene
To work with owner agencies and customers in order to resolve technical issues affecting the aggregates industry. Contractor member technical issues will be handled by ad-hoc subcommittees formed by the Joint MTBMA-SHA Leadership Council and the soon-to-be convened MTBMA-MDTA Leadership Council.

Members may also participate on MDQI subcommittees, which are project development, MDQI conference, highway operations, safety, and partnering.

Fall Golf and Clay Shoot

Register now for the Fall Invitational Golf Outing and Sporting Clay Shoot scheduled for September 23, 2010.

The Golf Outing will be held at Queenstown Harbor Golf Links, 310 Links Lane, Queenstown, MD. The Sporting Clay Shoot will be held at Schrader’s Bridgetown Manor, 16090 Oakland Road, Henderson, MD but will join the golfers for dinner at Queenstown.

Have You Contacted Your Elected Officials?

In less than two weeks elected officials will return to Washington. It is vital that you and your employees communicate with them the need for a transportation bill.

Please contact your Senators and Representatives and urge them to make passing a long-term reauthorization bill a priority for 2010.

Voter Information

Please mark your calendars. The Primary election will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. A list of Polling place locations are available from the Board of Elections.

Those Registered Voters who wish to vote by Absentee Ballot may do so by mailing an Absentee Ballot Application to the address on the form. Absentee Ballots must be received no later than September 7, 2010.

MdQI Award Nominations

The Awards Subcommittee invites you to submit nominations for the 2010 Awards of Excellence. For rules and forms, go to www.mdae.org/mdqi2011/mdqi.html. The award applications will be due to the sponsoring agencies by September 30, 2010.

Awards will be presented at the 2011 MdQI Conference scheduled for February 2 & 3, 2011 at the Sheraton, Baltimore City Center.
