MTBMA Welcomes New Executive Director
The Board of Directors of the Maryland Transportation Builders & Materials Association is excited to welcome Mike Sakata as the new Executive Director of MTBMA. Mike’s first official day will be July 2nd. Jim Russ, President will remain with the association for the transition until his retirement in December 2018.  
 

Michael Sakata

Prior to joining MTBMA, Michael served as American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) Vice President of Services & Technology. During his sixteen-plus years at ARTBA, Michael managed several major contracts, the association’s digital and information technology portfolio, and two ARTBA member divisions. Since 2013, Michael served as the executive director of both the Metropolitan Washington Road & Transportation Association (MWRTBA), an ARTBA-managed affiliation, and the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC). In addition, Michael managed ARTBA’s National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse contract, and served as the managing director of the over-1200 member ARTBA Transportation Officials Division and Research & Education Division.

Michael is a certified Project Management Professional and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. He holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Decision Sciences/Management Information Systems from the George Mason University’s School of Business. In 2017, Trending40.com recognized Michael’s work at MWRTBA and bestowed him with the Top Association & Non-Profit Innovator Award for Executives.

Michael serves as First Vice Chairman of “The Road Gang”, a fraternal group of public officials and private sector executives involved in transportation infrastructure policy issues in Washington, DC and sits on the Board of Directors of the Architecture Construction Engineering (ACE) Association, where he mentors and inspires high school students to pursue careers in the fields of transportation design and construction.
