This week was National Work Zone Awareness Week. Every year when construction season starts in spring the Federal Highway Administration together with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) organize and promote the NWZAW.
At M. Luis Construction, we value safety culture. Jaime Lopez, (pictured left) our safety manager, highlighted the important points regarding this serious matter. There is a three-step safety program that consists of:
1) Eliminate the Hazard
2) Engineering Control
3) Personal Protective Equipment
This program is key to find and eliminate possible hazards and it protects our workers from incidents and injuries. We have scheduled safety meetings and random inspections. If a hazard is found, we immediately bring it to the field management personnel to address the problem and then do a follow up to ensure that the safety issue and solutions are brought up to the rest of our labor force.
