Last week, Senator Barbara Boxer (CA) asked NRMCA (National Ready Mix Concrete Association) to join her for a “Bipartisan” news conference to urge the passing of the Transportation Bill being debated by the Senate/House Conference Committee.
On short notice, Bill Childs, President & CEO, Chaney Enterprises, Hardy Johnson, Titan America and Kerri Leininger, NRMCA, Government Affairs arranged for several mixer trucks and miscellaneous equipment to provide backdrop for the Senator, based on the concept that this would have Democrats and Republicans present to support a new bill.
Unfortunately, the group was a bit blindsided as no Republicans were present, while Ms. Boxer, Senator John Kerry (MA) and other democrats used the session to blast the Republicans for failure to agree and made the event into a very “partisan” political football!
In spite of the outcome, the industry was well represented by Mr. Childs, Secretary of MTBMA who delivered a very strong and well received message to the press and all in attendance. I have asked for and want to share with Bill’s peers his extremely well delivered message. On behalf of all of us, thank you Bill for your good work-well done.
